What I Love

Vita Vea does a fantastic job of bull rushing the Right Guard to force the Quarterback out of the pocket, who eventually throws an interception.  While breaking down film, I see this so often from Vea, who causes a constant disruption in the trenches.

What I Hate

There’s very little that I dislike about Vita Vea’s game, but I do wish that he’d play more instinctively.  Had Vea kept his ground, he likely would have been able to get around the center and break the pocket down, rather than allowing the Quarterback to escape and run up field.

Fights Through Double Teams

These are the types of plays that standout when I’m watching film.  Vita Vea powers through two defenders to take down Josh Rosen.  There’s power, speed, instincts – It’s all present on this play.

Player Comparison:  New York Jets DL Leonard Williams

Much like Williams, Vita Vea is a disruption on the defensive line that brings agility and versatility.  Vita Vea will measure heavier than Williams, but they still play rather similarly.  Both players found themselves playing from all defensive line positions.  Leonard Williams is now playing Defensive End for the Jets, and depending on the team that decides to draft him, Vita Vea could find himself doing the same.

Projected Draft Pick: Top Fifteen

All the intangibles are there with Vita Vea, who showed versatility by playing across the defensive line at University of Washington.  I truly believe that Vea will step in on day one and contribute at a high-level immediately, but will really prosper after a year or two in the league.
