If you haven’t been able to tell over my recent Patriot posts, I am a big fan of Leon Washington. Even if contributes very little to the running back position during the year, he still has great value on the team. He is one of the best kick returners in the game and I think the Pats are lucky to get him back before he went to another team. The Patriots have struggled in recent years on the kick return and were going to go with Blount this season. I think Blount is a quality running back, but I just don’t see him being consistent on the kick returns. We would have really struggled with him returning kicks this year. The team has recently confirmed that Washington will be back. Once he is on the roster on Sunday, the Pats will have to pay him, so he is likely to stick with the team as long as he lasts till Sunday.
Washington has worked out with the Giants and Jets this past week, but decided to come back to the Patriots. This signing brings the number of players on the Pats roster to the full 53 players. You would think Washington would stay with the team now with the latest signing. The Pats may have brought him back for security because Bolden has been battling injuries. Whatever the case, this is a great move for the Pats and I can’t wait to possibly see him returning kickoffs this weekend. I commend the Pats management for bringing him back and after watching the last preseason game, Washington could even be seen at running back if injuries occur.
